Johnston City Public Library offers a wide range of services for  all patrons. Computers, periodicals,
Interlibrary loans as well   as over 15,000 book for your reading pleasure. Below is a list of services as
well as restrictions and other information.

Services for the disabled: The Johnston City Library is handicapped accessible with the handicapped entrance
located in the back of the library. The library will also order talking books for any patron with a vision impairment
or if there is a problem with reading. Please see the link page for more information.

Book Check Out: All books, except for reference books, are loaned for a 2 week period with 1 renewal for a total
of 1 month. A book can also be reserved if it is checked out and we will be happy to call you when it arrives.
Remember you must pick up the book with in 3 days or if someone else is waiting for the same book it will be
passed on to them.


Periodicals: The library offers a number of periodicals for your reading and researching enjoyment. News Week,
Time, Ladies Home Journal, as well as Readers Digest,Better Homes and Garden, People,Popular Mechanics
and National Geographic just to name a few. We have over a dozen current an archived magazines if you missed
an article or just want to re-read one you enjoyed. We also offer a number of local newspapers including the
Southern Illinoisan, Marion Daily and the Spokesman.


Audio and Video Tapes: We have a number of audio tapes as well as books on tape and video movies which can
be rented. Please check with the librarian for more information. We can also order talking books from the
Shawnee Library. These come with a cassette player, loaned  to you at no charge, if you are visually impaired.

Computers: We have 4 computers for your use. You are required to sign a users agreement to use the computers
where by you agree to follow the policies of the Johnston City Public Library. All patrons under the age of 18 have
to have parents permission to use the computers and the parent must sign the young persons registration and
user agreement form. Below is the policies of the Johnston City Public Library regarding computer usage. NO
MATERIAL CAN BE DOWNLOADED ON TO PERSONAL DISKS. DISKS MAY PURCHASED FROM THE
LIBRARY. This is to make sure that no viruses, spy ware, or tracking ware will infect the computers. Disk may be
purchased from the desk.

    1. User agrees to abide by library policy for internet usage.

    2. User agrees to pay for any repair or replacement cost for equipment damage caused by the
    adult user or a minor the user is responsible for.

    3. User understands that copyright laws restrict duplication of copyrighted software and the  
    copying of copyrighted material and does agree to follow all copyright laws.

    4. User understands that violation of the Johnston City Public Library internet policy will result in
    loss of eligibility for this service.

    5. User understands and acknowledges that the Internet contains material of a controversial
    nature including pornography, obscenity, inflammatory or dangerous material and the Johnston
    City Public Library has no control over the Internet and assumes no responsibility for the content,
    quality, accuracy, currency, or appropriateness of any internet resources.
